Pan, Goat or Ram...

Pan-

How do you picture this great God? Most would say Goat horns and hooves, and others would say Ram horns and hooves, and some don't know the difference between the two
only the fact he has horns and hooves. Its all a personal preference how we all view our God, Gods and Goddesses. I've always pictured Pan as a very robust God with slightly curved medium sized Goat horns and goat hooves.

For some reason I never really cared for the images with Ram horns and a lower Goat/Ram form. Even though he is over flocks of sheep and goats. Watching a Billy goat in full rut, mad with lust is one of the most amazing things you will ever witness, the cry and bellering over and over is like nothing else to the ears. (A common superstition in the Middle Ages was that goats whispered lewd sentences in the ears of the saints. The origin of this belief was probably the behavior of the buck in rut, the very epitome of lust) The never ending pursuit to mount the Nannies, they will literally run themselves to death. Among beating each other to a bloody pulp with other Billy's to get a chance to mount.

Well, this all changed for me the other day, I can appreciate the Ram horn version of Pan more so now. Other morning I came home from work to see one of my Goats had been loose on the backside of the fence. With her, was a newly born kid. After some persuasion to get her and her new kid back into the pasture, some one took great notice of this new mother, Mr. Damien,
MR. Damien is a Jacob sheep Ram.
He literally went crazy.. Took right after the nanny,
pinned her in a corner and mounted her, she screaming from the Rams insertion, She manages to break loose and make a run for it, with him on her the whole time. (Granted he doesn't make the sounds and cry as a billy goat but his passionate behavior was amazing.)
At one time she managed to squeeze into an empty kennel, where he was unable to pursue. He began ramming the kennel, after a good bit he decided to go check out the newborn, he then began to shove the little one around
which made it cry out for its mother, she would come running over, where he would pursue her again, when ever she got some where he was unable to pursue, he would attack the newly born kid all over again, to make her come to him..

Needless to say, MR. Damien is on the freezer list and will be butchered some time this year, Funny hes not this aggressive with his ewes.. Perhaps goat is better than sheep, who knows? I never will, In some parts of Africa its a rite for boys to become men, they must first have sex with a goat, after which they are considered a man in their tribe..
